Spongebob Squarepants is incurably optimistic, innocent, earnest, and well-meaning about EVERYTHING. He revels in his job as a fry cook and cherishes the time he spends with his closest friends, particularly when they engage in jellyfishing or karate practice.

Patrick Star, Spongebob's best friend, is not unintelligent, but rather dimwitted. His hobbies include sleeping and maintaining a dormant state.

Squidward Tentacles, Spongebob's grumpy neighbor, is embittered, whiny, aloof, and a dismal musician, though he remains blissfully unaware of his lackluster abilities.

Sandy Cheeks, one of Spongebob's closest companions, hails from Texas and shares his passion for sports, especially karate, as well as her talent for invention.

Gary the Snail, Spongebob's pet, communicates simply with a "meow."

Mr. Krabs, the penny-pinching owner of the Krusty Krab, is devoted to two things: money and his whale of a daughter, Pearl.

Plankton, the microscopic (not to be confused with a roach) proprietor of the Chum Bucket, will stop at nothing to acquire the secret formula for the renowned Krabby Patty. A college graduate, Plankton aspires to achieve world domination.
